Discover GARDEL

GARDEL, much more than a sugar factory, embodies a history, a heritage and an essential driver of the local economy. Its environmental, social and societal commitment makes it a key player in the cane-sugar-rum sector. But above all, GARDEL is about sugar, the kind that has been passed down through the generations and is still at the heart of everyone’s daily life.

Our mission

Promoting Guadeloupe, its sugarcane industry and the excellence of its sugar, in a responsible manner.

Our values

Excellence

In the image of our know-how and our production facilities, to offer quality products and services to our customers.

Transparency

It can be seen in our relations with all our stakeholders and by sharing our processes and information clearly.

Listening

It is for our employees, our customers, our consumers, our growers, so that we can understand their needs and continue to progress together.

Solidarity

It unites us: employees as well as partners, growers as well as suppliers, in order to support the sustainable development of our industry.

A historic plant

For over 150 years, we’ve been at the heart of the local economy. Our know-how is the fruit of generations of experience, enabling us to transform sugar cane into sugar and rum, thereby contributing to the wealth of our island. Rooted in history as well as the present, we remain determined to keep the industry going.

We are farmers

GARDEL is also a key player in Guadeloupe’s agricultural sector.
With almost 1,000 hectares cultivated in the immediate vicinity of the factory, we produce 10% of the island’s cane, guaranteeing a stable, local supply. This mastery of the crop enables us to experiment and innovate to keep pace with developments in the sugar industry.

In partnership with the Centre Technique de la Canne à Sucre (CTCS ) , we take part in varietal trials and experimentation with new agricultural practices, helping to adapt to climatic and agronomic challenges.

Every year, we replant almost 200 hectares to ensure regular crop renewal and higher productivity. We integrate a sustainable approach by reusing water through lagooning and reusing wastewater for field irrigation. This synergy between the plant and its farm gives full meaning to our commitment to more sustainable, high-performance production.

GARDEL, a social enterprise

GARDEL is the island’s largest employer, directly supporting over 500 families and contributing to 8,000 direct and indirect jobs. During the sugar harvest, from February to July, our teams work around the clock to transform sugar cane into sugar.

In addition to our industrial commitment, we place quality of working life and skills development at the heart of our priorities. Between passing on know-how and team spirit, we strive to create a dynamic and supportive working environment ,
where everyone has their place and can flourish.

A controlled supply chain

The Jarry silo plays an essential role in our logistics, providing storage for sugar for refining, known as “bulk” sugar, as well as optimal storage for Big Bags of consumer sugar, known as “special sugars”.

GARDEL’s quality teams carry out rigorous checks before each shipment, guaranteeing products that meet our customers’ requirements and expectations.
