Energy

GARDEL, green energy supplier

Since 1998, ALBIOMA has been backed by GARDEL, using its bagasse to generate electricity.
This enables growers to be remunerated on the bagasse as well, and thus get more value out of their sugarcane.
100% of GARDEL’s bagasse is sent to ALBIOMA, generating up to 20% of the island’s electricity. In return, ALBIOMA supplies GARDEL with steam, essential for evaporating the juices and crystallizing the sugars.
GARDEL is also involved in photovoltaic projects, with a view to going even further in the field of green energy.

ISO 5001

The ISO 50001 standard provides strict specifications for energy performance.

ISO 50001 is a voluntary international standard developed in 2011 by some 50 member countries of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
This standard provides guidelines for deploying an effective energy management system in an industry, with the aim of driving the company towards greater energy efficiency. This results in cost savings and limits greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions linked to energy combustion.
In 2014, GARDEL obtained this standard, becoming the first European sugar mill to receive this certification. Every year since then, GARDEL has been further improving its environmental and energy impact by setting ever more ambitious targets, including an investment plan focused on energy efficiency.
Valorcannes

Valorcannes: from cane to cane

The organic fertilizer platform plays a key role in the fertilization of sugarcane fields by valorizing the industry’s co-products. It receives and processes various residues from sugar production and distillation: skimmings from GARDEL juice filtration, bagasse ash from ALBIOMA, vinasse and bagasse from the Damoiseau distillery, and vinasse syrups from the Bonne-Mère distillery. This circular economy model naturally enriches the soil, while reducing waste and environmental impact.
